My siblings predicted we would be strangling each other in a fully-packed convertible Toyota Solara during 10 days driving from Maryland to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Yes, their predictions came true a few times but we managed to weather the storms.

We will tell you more about the trip later but now things have changed so much between my husband and I that culminated in the poem he wrote for me.

The title : You

The memories we've made

Through the years we've shared

Hand in hand, side by side

In a love that has never waned

From youthful bliss to aging grace

We've weathered storms, embraced each phase

But now, as time takes its toll

I catch a glimpse of who you once were

And my heart feels a pull

Through the threads of time, I see

The girl I fell in love with instantly

Her eyes, vibrant as the morning sun

That twinkle of mischief, always so much fun

Her laughter, a melody that echoes through my soul

Oh, how I long to hear it every day, to make me whole

But these words in my heart, they stay concealed

For pride, like an obstructive shield

I wish I could whisper all that you mean to me

With every breath, with every plea

I wish I could tell you just how much I adore

Each wrinkle, each mark time has left you for

How each passing year has only enhanced your grace

With a love that only grows, never fades

But sometimes, my love, silence speaks louder than words

In the stolen glances, the gestures that need not be heard

For in the depths of our eyes, our hearts intertwine

And the unspoken love is the sweetest, divine

So let me hold you close, my dear, each and every day

And let our actions, our touch, our love say

All the things I wish to convey, but cannot impart

For in our oldness, my love, lies the essence of our hearts
